Welcome to the Michigan Chapter of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning. We are a non-profit organization of K-12 music teachers dedicated to the enrichment of music education in Michigan through the application of Music Learning Theory as developed by Dr. Edwin Gordon. 
 
Our mission is to: 

 • Share teaching ideas and techniques involving Music Learning Theory through workshops and newsletters.
 • Continue the study of Music Learning Theory. 
 • Keep abreast of current research as it relates to our teaching.
 • Support educators using Music Learning Theory 
 • Advocate the use of Music Learning Theory in our schools.

GIML Ethics Statement: 
The Gordon Institute for Music Learning strongly encourages members to act in a positive and professional manner when discussing our organization and Music Learning Theory in general.  Members are encouraged to recognize and remain open to varied approaches and to celebrate both our differences and our similarities.

Jessica    Glaser  -    President

Jessica Glaser is a music teacher at Wines Elementary School in Ann Arbor, MI. She teaches general music to students ages preschool-5th grade. She earned her bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance as well as her master's degree in Music Education at Michigan State University. Jess has also taught early childhood music to children ages birth-5. Jess currently serves as the Michigan Chapter President of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning. She is committed to supporting music teachers in emboldening their students to be lifelong musicians!

Katie   Kurilko   -    Vice    President


​Katie Kurilko teaches pK-2 vocal music at Bryant Elementary School in Ann Arbor, MI. She is an alumna of Michigan State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. She is currently a Master of Educational Leadership & Policy candidate at the University of Michigan. She has taught early childhood music for many years. Katie serves on the MI-GIML board as the Vice President, and is thrilled to have an inspiring year of learning with her amazing GIML team!

Amy   SierzegA   -    Past   President


​Amy Sierzega teaches pK-5 general music and beginning band at Lakewood Elementary School in Ann Arbor, MI. She is an alumna of Michigan State University, where she earned degrees as a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Music Education. Amy teaches early childhood music classes, children birth-age 5, through Eastern Michigan University's Community Music Academy in Ypsilanti, MI, and is an assistant conductor of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band. Amy serves on the MI-GIML board as immediate past-president and on the GIML national board as membership chair.
